We Believe….

We believe everyone has a right to dominion over their own health and care. We believe there needs to be a revolution surrounding childbirth and a renaissance surrounding healthcare as a whole. We believe the transitional stages throughout a woman’s life are normal but nuanced, deserving of celebration and support. We believe childbearing families deserve equitable access to safe and empowering care, options in birth, and encouragement through their journey to healthy parenthood. We believe a parent deserves support long after the birthing experience. We believe in the strength of a woman and the power of community. We believe education is empowering. We believe our duty is to hold space without judgement or agenda.

What is the Cooperative?

Simply put, we are your village. Today’s world doesn’t often allow for the traditional “village” that so many women relied on for centuries. In the absence of a true village, we feel the pressure to be and do everything that once was done by a group of people. We often lose perspective of priorities because we are taking care of everything at the same time. The Holding Space Birth & Wellness Cooperative is here to fill that void. The Holding Space is a non-profit organization that works in partnership with for-profit businesses and professionals to offer classes and support groups for women and families in our community. “The land that surrounds us is part of who we are; it reflects our histories.”

- NATIVE GOVERNANCE CENTER

The Holding Space acknowledges, with humility, that it occupies the land that is the territory of the Samish Nation. Their presence is imbued in the waterways, shorelines, valleys, and mountains of the traditional homelands of the Coast Salish People, since before recorded history.
